National Construction Summit

Healthcare principal Benedict Zucchi will talk about the designs for the New Children’s Hospital, Dublin at the 3rd Annual National Construction Summit in Dublin. The project is the largest, most complex and significant capital investment project ever undertaken in healthcare in Ireland and is due to open in 2021. Benedict will present alongside Phelim Devine, deputy director of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board, and they will discuss their sustainable vision for the hospital with a focus on economic, social and environmental sustainability and securing the hospital’s longevity. The landscape and public realm will be a key contributor to local regeneration, increasing ecological diversity and amenity on site with the wider aim of improving the quality of the therapeutic environment and patient and family experience. The following day Benedict will present with design associate, Katharine Blankley, at the Healthcare Construction Network to be held at the RICS, Great George Street, London from 07.45 – 10.30. Katharine was lead interior designer on the award-winning Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and is currently working on the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary Care (3Ts), Brighton. She and Benedict will discuss their approach to designing for children, their experiences of procuring furniture for healthcare environments, wayfinding and art integration. They will also discuss the use of technology and how this can strengthen the sense of community and the children’s hospital rooms of the future.
