ICSC European Conference and Exhibition

When: 10th – 11th April
Where: Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos 1, Barcelona

Retail director Garry Wilding and architect associate Joaquin Monge will be attending this year’s International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC) in Barcelona. Space, Place and the Future of Retail brings together leaders from retail, real estate, investment, F&B and proptech for a two day exchange of ideas and an innovative exhibition.

Two of our projects are among the 15 shortlisted for the prestigious European Shopping Centre Awards which will be announced during the conference. Westgate Oxford, nominated in the category for large new development, is a major retail and mixed use development which required the project to be seamlessly stitched into Oxford’s historic city fabric. The masterplan is based on individual buildings integrated with the streets of Oxford by a network of covered streets, lanes and arcades which are all naturally ventilated.

Meadowhall in Sheffield, shortlisted in the extra large refurbishments category, saw the UK’s fourth largest shopping centre transformed into a contemporary destination. Embracing the city’s steel legacy, our design interpreted it in abstract ways with distinct districts with different mall finishes and environments. Columns and arches were removed, double height frontages and improved flooring were installed and wayfinding, signage and feature lighting artwork were added.
