BDP Wins Structural Award for Enterprise Centre

BDP has won the Institution of Structural Engineers Award for sustainability for The Enterprise Centre at the University of East Anglia. The award was announced at an event in London on 17 November.

Working with Architype and Morgan Sindall as contractor, BDP provided full engineering and sustainability for this exemplar low carbon building that achieved two of the most rigorous sustainable built environment standards, BREEAM Outstanding with a score of 93.0% and Passivhaus.

The judges said “The result is a building where almost every internal surface is of wood. Externally some of the walls are covered with thatch – a truly innovative design. The timber structure is a crucial part of a building that is super-sustainable. The commitment to the sourcing of local trade and low-carbon materials makes the Enterprise Centre an exemplar for specification, structural integration as well as energy performance.”

The project has already won 16 design awards including a RIBA Award and best of the best for the British Council for Offices Award.
