Planning for Roomzzz Aparthotel in Harrogate

A 98-room aparthotel at the Great Yorkshire Showground has been granted planning permission by Harrogate Borough Council. BDP is architect, landscape architect and sustainability consultant for the £10m scheme which is due for completion late 2019.

Architect director Mike Hitchmough said: “I’m delighted for our client Roomzzz and the Yorkshire Agricultural Society that we are now able to deliver this wonderful project that will make a valuable contribution to the Showground site and the wider tourism and leisure offer in Harrogate.  The use of stone and vertical timber boarding acknowledges the agricultural aesthetic of the showground whilst extensive new landscape complements the existing and mature natural setting of the site.”

Naveen Ahmed, CEO of Roomzzz Aparthotel UK, commented: “We’re delighted that our appeal has been successful and that Harrogate will be the latest addition to our aparthotels portfolio. The company was founded in Yorkshire, so we know Harrogate well and believe it is the ideal location to expand the Roomzzz brand.”

The Great Yorkshire Showground is host to nearly 700 events throughout the year, including the agricultural Great Yorkshire Show, fairs, trade shows, business conferences and wedding receptions. The Showground receives approximately half a million visitors each year, with events generating £47m for the local economy.

BDP is currently working with Roomzzz on two other aparthotels in York and Newcastle which have already achieved planning.
