New Ballina Secondary School Building Granted Planning Permission

A new education building for St. Mary’s Secondary School has been granted planning permission.

Designed to accommodate 650 pupils, the development will be constructed on a 5.6 ha greenfield site, north of the existing school and convent. It will comply with the Nearly Zero Energy Building standards and the improved Department of Education and Science classroom and student accommodation guidelines, becoming an exemplary school in Ireland.

St. Mary's will gain new arts, science, technology and performance rooms alongside a library, landscaped areas, that will assist with ecology lessons, and sports facilities including hard play courts and a football pitch.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2018 and is planned to complete within 18 months. BDP is architect, building services engineer and structural engineer on this project.
