Project details

BDP were appointed to develop the mechanical, electrical, and sustainability strategies for a suite of twelve exemplar designs for primary schools.  These school templates were then used in the construction of over 40 school buildings.

Our engineers worked with the project architect to implement passive solutions  to sustainable design that generated real environmental savings with no additional capital costs. The result, with a monitored energy use of less than 57kWh/m2/yr was short listed for the CIBSE environmental initiative of the year and SEAI sustainability awards.

The project also included some innovative new research concepts including the writing of software for an interactive teaching display and the production of an interactive O&M that was specifically designed for use in primary schools.

  • create a cost effective solution to sustainable design
  • set best practice standards for M&E design

Results

  • a set of high quality primary school design documents
  • a genuinely low energy solution with no additional costs
  • award winning, passive design exemplar
