BDP Appointed for Retail Element of Birmingham's New Street Station

BDP has been appointed alongside lead consultants Atkins, for a £600m overhaul of Birmingham New Street station. The scheme is set to quadruple the size of the concourse, greatly increasing its passenger capacity to 52 million a year, and will provide the city with a new landmark building with improved new pedestrian links to the city centre. This project is viewed by the City Council as the key to unlocking the development of the eastside of the city centre.

BDP’s initial appointment is for the design of the retail element and integration with the station concourse; as well as making the whole concept “achievable, buildable and affordable”.

BDP was responsible for the successful transformation of Manchester Piccadilly station in 2002 and is currently working on redevelopments at both Chester and Nottingham Stations.
