BDP’s New Head of Sustainability

Richard Buckingham has joined BDP as Head of Sustainability on 15 September 2008, based in London.

Richard joins BDP from Arup where he played a key role in the strategic direction of sustainability across the firm.

Before joining Arup he worked as executive director of sustainability for London First and with a number of other organisations including sustainability consultant Brook Lyndhurst and Ford in senior consultancy and management roles.

Richard is interested in ‘future proofing’; how the urban form can respond to, and facilitate, the behavioural and lifestyle changes of its occupants in adapting to climate change and other social, economic and environmental changes which influence our society.

Richard’s people-centred approach to sustainable thinking sits well with BDP’s integrated practice and philosophy of designing ‘places for people’.

Over the coming months Richard will be working with all of the sectors, specialisms and geographical locations of BDP to further develop and enhance the BDP holistic and integrated sustainability offering.
