BDP’s Global RLI Awards

On Thursday18 June (2009) Liverpool One won the International Retail and Leisure Destination of the Year Award at the Global RLI (Retail and Leisure International) Awards in London winning over Westfield London and Branson Landing Missouri.

The judges called it   “The most important development in Liverpool’s city centre for more than 40 years, Liverpool One delivers a shopping, residential and leisure environment that few other cities can match.  Covering 42 acres, this £950m development contains 30 individually designed buildings in five distinct districts, each with a different character, offer and design”.

At Liverpool One BDP was masterplanner, concept architect for six buildings, executive architect for nine buildings, landscape architect and lighting designer 1999 – 2008.

In addition BDP’s Victoria Square in Belfast was a highly commended for the International Shopping Centre of the Year Award, losing out to Westfield by one point but knocking Cabot Circus into third.

The judges said of this development “Opened in March 2008 Victoria Square offers retailers an exceptional opportunity to be part of Belfast’s regeneration…  (It) provides a new urban area, with the new streets and buildings forming a harmonious whole with those already existing.”

BDP’s role on the project was as architect, planner, structural and building services engineer, landscape architect, acoustic and sustainability consultant.
