New Acute Hospital for the South West

Exemplar hospital design in Enniskillen Northern Ireland.

A 300 bed new acute hospital on a greenfield site in the county of Fermanagh adjacent to Wolf Lough. All clinical departments face onto a central, triple height ‘street’ which links the main public spaces of the building, with careful consideration of their clinical adjacencies to minimise travel distances.

Ward bedrooms in have been arranged to provide long range views across the surrounding landscape.

The interiors are a high specification of finish to public, patient and staff areas; providing high quality spaces for working, resting and recovering.

Brief

  • to re-design hospital services, using the latest technologies
  • deliver attractive and well-designed buildings that meet the needs of staff, patients and visitors
  • the first in a wave of hospital pfi schemes

  • the building is shallow plan and maximises natural light and ventilation to patient and staff areas
