BDP to design new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre

BDP has been appointed by the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust to design the concept for a new £118m cancer centre in Liverpool city centre. The design will be further developed, in collaboration with the trust’s chosen contractor partner, this coming autumn.

The new hospital will share the same health campus as the new Royal Liverpool Hospital and the University of Liverpool. It will be funded by the NHS with support from fundraising appeals and provide care for people with cancer across the Merseyside and Cheshire region.

Andrew Cannell, chief executive of the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, said: “This is a once in a generation opportunity to transform cancer care. We are absolutely committed to ensuring people in Merseyside, Cheshire and surrounding areas receive the very best cancer services, and we believe these proposals are crucial to achieving that.”

The trust is one of the largest and best equipped networked cancer centres in the UK, whose mission is to improve health and well-being through compassionate, safe and effective cancer care using techniques at the forefront of medical technology.

The proposals for the new building, which will complement the existing Clatterbridge centres in Wirral and Aintree, have gone to public consultation. More information on the consultation can be found here.
