Whitechapel masterplan formally launched

BDP’s masterplan for the regeneration of Whitechapel in London was formally launched on 27 March.  At the event it was announced that former London Mayor Ken Livingstone would support its delivery.

The masterplan focuses on six key areas, including the revitalisation of Whitechapel Road and the creation of a striking civic hub. It will also deliver over 3,500 new homes by 2025, generate 5,000 jobs, and create seven new public squares and open spaces.

The new civic hub will be the first project within the scheme and will be set around a new high-quality civic square. It will be complemented by a mix of additional uses, including new retail, cultural and community facilities to provide a vibrant and sustainable development that all local residents, visitors and businesses can enjoy.

BDP has worked closely with the council and local stakeholders to listen to their ideas and aspirations for the area and ensure the masterplan reflects a collaborative vision for the area.

BDP directors Anna Sinnott and Nick Edwards will be discussing the project, at an event at BDP’s London studio, as part of Green Sky Thinking on 30 April.
