IALD Enlighten Americas 2014: Light Eclectic

Colin Ball and Lora KalevaSaturated Colour: Why the Blues?

When: Thursday 16th – Saturday 18th October
Where: Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa, San Diego, California

Lighting designers Colin Ball and Lora Kaleva will present at this year’s IALD Enlighten Americas in San Diego in the Art Track session using the heading Saturated Colour: Why the Blues?  Research has shown that the colour blue is one of the most widely used in lighting and also one that has the greatest impact on the human body in terms of a physiological and psychological reaction.    Exposure to the colour can lower blood pressure and pulse rate, reduce perspiration and slow neuron response.

Colin and Lora will reinforce the cultural history of the colour and illustrate their scientific research with practical examples from a variety of projects they have worked on, explaining why they use blue and how clients and designers respond to it.    In discussion the audience will find out  what impact it has on the urban environment and be asked the question ‘Why the Blues?’.
