As an architect yourself, who inspires you?
Alvar Aalto was my great love as a student. It is the appreciation of natural materials, the innovation of using familiar materials in new ways that I found inspiring.
But if you are talking about that feeling when you get a tingling sensation in your spine when you walk into a building and think hey, this is something great, I am blown away by I.M. Pei’s designs. Recently I visited the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha - it is just beautiful how all these traditional ideas have been rethought in a completely contemporary way.
