Shyam Khandekar is a company director responsible for BDP Khandekar in the Netherlands and chair of BDP’s Indian studio.
Shyam has degrees in architecture (IIT, India), urban design (Manchester University, UK) and urban planning (Technical University Delft, The Netherlands). He has more than 30 years’ professional experience in different parts of the world, including design projects in the Netherlands, Belgium, UK, the Middle East and India. His expertise is combining the essential aspects of urban design, landscape architecture and infrastructure in his projects.
Shyam has been responsible for many benchmark designs. These include the award winning housing project of Monnikenhuizen in Arnhem, and the internationally acclaimed urban regeneration project Paleiskwartier in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. He is also responsible for BDP’s first project in India, Nirlon IT Park in Mumbai.
Shyam was previously a founding partner and director of Khandekar Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. He has lectured extensively around the world at conferences and universities on liveable cities.
