Cardiff and Vale College Community Campus

Facts

Location Client Cost Completion
Cardiff, Wales, UK Rightacre Properties £45m 2015

Project details

A state-of-the-art college with spectacular views towards Cardiff Bay.

Open and welcoming faculty clusters are set around a public route through the heart of the college. The building’s distinctive wedge shape allows interior spaces to connect with south facing terraces.

An over-sailing roof is angled to accommodate a 1,850 sq m photovoltaic array, and a fine dining sky restaurant is located under the northernmost tip with views across the city towards the Millennium Stadium.

As well as providing education and training, facilities include a gym, spa, beauty salons, shops and a conference centre which will also be open to the public seven days a week.

It’s an aspirational scheme that has breathed new life onto the streets by becoming a hub of education, community and training in this previously difficult and challenging area of the city. It’s not about a particular feature of the ambitious architecture that is worthy of note, but rather the positive impact the building has had very quickly on the entire area.
