BDP's Painted Tiles Mural Initiative for Green Abu Dhabi
BDP has joined up with Green Abu Dhabi 2010, a brand new community initiative that aims to raise awareness about the environment and sustainable development through art.
As part of the initiative, BDP has sponsored and organised the ‘Our Tomorrow’ event, where children from schools throughout the UAE have illustrated their wishes for a greener tomorrow, and created a giant mural out of ceramic tiles at the Emirates Heritage Club, Abu Dhabi.
Gary Dicken, BDP MENA director, commented, “Sustainability and community participation is core to the BDP ethos of ‘Creating Places for People’. We aim to create environment-friendly places for people to live, work, shop, enjoy and learn and involve communities wherever we operate, to understand local needs, environment, culture. We are very excited about children expressing themselves through art and words and illustrating their future aspirations.”
The project was open to students of all age groups and to all schools across the country. Children below the age of 10 painted what they envision as ‘Our Tomorrow’, while children above the age of 10 wrote their ‘Our Tomorrow’ wish, in four lines on the tiles.
Green Abu Dhabi 2010 is a three week event launched in October by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The event is designed to generate awareness of the environmental impact as the city grows and develops. The campaign is built around art shows by local emerging artists along with mini-events on topics of sustainable development interest designed to educate, activate and raise funds for charity. All proceeds from the events go to the The Future Centre for Special Needs.
