Open House London 2016

When: 17th – 18th September
Where: Deptford and Surrey Quays, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Whitechapel Crossrail

Several BDP designed buildings and spaces will be open for this year’s Open House London with team members from the projects leading guided tours.

Landscape director Mehron Kirk leads walking tours of his current successful urban regeneration projects in Deptford and Surrey Quays and will discuss the transformation of the public realm following the opening of the new Deptford station.  He and his team have been upgrading the public spaces in Lewisham with a series of award winning schemes over many years including Cornmill Gardens, Ladywell Fields and Margaret McMillan Park.

Interior design associate Kristen Liedl leads tours of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to show how a tired 1980s office building has been transformed into an attractive new headquarters with the facade and gable opened up at ground level to showcase the work of the society, promote health and to form an open, accessible and inviting addition to the local community.

Architect associate John Toovey joins the Crossrail guiding team to talk about BDP’s work at Whitechapel where the modernised station has a new entrance and step-free access between the street and all services at the station. A spectacular walkway alongside the concourse provides a new public pedestrian route for passengers and local residents and the historic features and unique personality of the existing station are enhanced as much as possible.

Three more BDP projects will also be open for Open House London weekend – Hale Village, a high-density major mixed use waterside development, Senate House which has been reconfigured and refurbished in a phased programme of work and the Grade I listed King’s College, London Strand Campus where BDP’s heritage team has been working for several years.
