Where: The Atrium – Students’ Union Building, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, PR1 7BQ
Manchester studio architect director Mark Braund will present the keynote address at the University of Central Lancashire’s business networking lunch before the DS16 awards and private view. He will talk about BDP’s approach to collaboration between the practice and young people still in education through several initiatives including the National Apprenticeship Scheme, the Adopt a School initiative and a collaborative practice initiative with Sheffield University. He will also present some of the award winning projects his team has recently completed including St John Bosco Arts College where a simple efficient form allows for greater flexibility to create transformational and inspirational spaces at reduced cost. For the UK Pavilion at Milan Expo Mark worked with artist Wolfgang Buttress to create a structure which was a collaboration between landscape and art highlighting the decline of the world’s bee population and the importance of pollination to the production of food. Following its multi-award winning success in Milan the Hive transfers to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew later this month.
UCLan business events are open to all organisations who are keen to engage with the university’s creative talent. Following the networking lunch there will be guided tours by course tutors and the opportunity to book additional events in particular areas of interest.
