Chase the Dark

BDP is hosting this year's Chase The Dark, an annual global celebration of light which begins in Australia and makes its way westward, one time zone after another, to the March equinox. Organised by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), each year light enthusiasts gather from across the globe to participate in the international lighting movement, photographing and then sharing displays of light via social media. The results demonstrate the creativity and diversity of the lighting design profession.

Each year celebrates a different theme and for this one, to mark the IALD’s 50^th anniversary, the theme is 50 Shades of Colour. Designers and teams will be supplied with LED torches and a range of colour filters (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple), allowing them to showcase their creativity by illuminating facades and street furniture to create mini lit temporary installations. Participants can explore the ways colours and light play together and create short videos and still images to be shared on social media using #IALDChaseDark and #IALD50.
