BDP has been involved with retired semi-professional footballer Alan Partner for over two years, working on his ambition to develop a number of five-a-side football centres within existing, unused warehouses. BDP has produced separate feasibility documents for schemes in Trowbridge, Liverpool, Sunderland and more recently in Calne, Wiltshire for which planning approval has just been obtained.
The site is a former storage and distribution centre of window manufacturer Deceuninck Ltd and includes an existing 10,800 sq m warehouse. The warehouse is only five years old and in very good condition with great potential of being converted into an outstanding facility.
The new facility will comprise 10 five-a-side artificial grass pitches, along with a gym for up to 70 users and supporting changing and administration facilities. A sports clinic and function space with catering facility is also provided and a sports bar will give welcome relief for players after a hard match.
Construction of the £3m project is due to commence in the New Year. BDP has been appointed as architect, civil and structural engineer, environmental engineer and interior designer.
