Winning night at RLI awards

BDP’s masterplan for Izmit town centre in Turkey won the Future Project Award last night [5 June 2014] in the Retail and Leisure International Awards at a glittering ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London.

BDP drew up the scheme in 2012 for property development company Retfund. The overall masterplan creates an integrated development plan for the city as well as a major new shopping destination.

The whole site is divided by a major highway and new pedestrian connections, including an expansive green bridge, are fundamental to the vision. To the north, a new civic space is framed by office buildings and connects to the existing high street. A large green space forms the focus for the residential zone to the east with imposing civic and commercial buildings framing the highway and the green bridge connection to the south. A landmark tower which sits adjacent to the mall provides a new point of orientation for the city.

Also on the night BDP’s lighting team was celebrating as Trinity Leeds was announced RLI International Shopping Centre.
