BDP and ROA win Welsh media centre

BDP and Rural Office for Architecture (ROA) are delighted to announce their appointment by the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD) to design the Canolfan S4C Yr Egin building on its Carmarthen campus. The appointment was made following a competitive tendering process.

The new centre will be Welsh broadcaster S4C’s headquarters set in a rural location in Carmarthen. It will also be home to a range of creative industries and community groups co-locating with the channel in an iconic and sustainable building.

Neil Sansum architect director at BDP’s Bristol studio said: “This is a collaborative partnership between a global brand and a local creative practice. The balance of BDP’s experience and proven track record of delivery is matched with ROA’s local knowledge, high standards of design, and their capability to deliver BDP’s high standard of service.

BDP has vast experience in helping universities all over the world to realise their vision for collaborative leaning environments and is well placed to produce an innovative and exciting design-led solution in the region.”

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is the product of an exciting, bold and transformative vision.  In bringing together a range of creative, digital and cultural practitioners within the same building, there will be an opportunity to co-locate a range of skills and talents to exchange information, to innovate and to create employment.  It will be a lead institution for the creative industries in Wales and will bring national and international prestige to UWTSD, S4C and their partners.

BDP’s appointment is for architecture, civil and structural engineering and building services engineering. Design development will start next month with a completion date forecast for spring 2018.
