Realising a future vision for Manchester’s Roman Gardens

Together with local community group the Castlefield Forum, BDP and Manchester Garden City have drawn up a masterplan for the redevelopment of Manchester’s Roman Gardens.

Darrell Wilson, landscape architect said of the project: “BDP is excited to be sharing in the Castlefield Forum’s enthusiasm for realising this future vision. The Roman Gardens are a very special place in the rich cultural setting of Castlefield but in need of repair and revitalisation. The initial designs begin to visualise the full potential of the space, sensitively repairing and restoring its exceptional heritage, whilst dramatically enhancing the experience for the local residents and future visitors.”

The crowd funded project hopes to deliver a world-class urban space that ties together the 2,000 year-old Roman heritage of the site with the modern day city. The enhanced gardens will be made more attractive, sustainable and welcoming with new lighting and seating, attractive planting, community gardens, enhanced Roman interpretation and new gateway entrances.
