Royal opening for Alder Hey Children's Hospital

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool was officially opened today [22 June] by Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Queen took a short tour of the new hospital including the landscaped park setting, and met BDP directors Benedict Zucchi and Ged Couser as well as patients and key members of staff, before unveiling a plaque to officially open the new facility.

The new children’s hospital opened to great acclaim in October 2015 and in that short time has won nine design and industry awards including RICS Building of the Year NW regional awards and an RIBA national award.

BDP was architect, landscape architect, interior and graphic design for the building which had a construction value of £167m.

We have completed a video of this exciting project including footage of the building in use, as well as interviews with key members of the design team who explain the design process and the ideas behind the scheme.
