BDP works with Placefirst on housing regeneration

BDP has been working with family PRS developer PlaceFirst to develop landscape and public realm proposals based around the principles of building communities.

The Green in Hartlepool is the developer’s first project in the North East. A garden square will be overlooked by a range of remodelled Victorian terraced properties and will include an attractive green pocket park for use by residents and the wider community. The square will consist of a children’s play area and activity lawn, recreational lawns and multi-function hard space where community events can be held. The entire space will be enclosed by a planting strip consisting of a new hedge and avenues of semi-mature trees helping to create an enclosed safe place for children to play. Safety on the roads around the square will also be improved with a one-way system and build-outs constructed in key locations to reduce car speeds through the area.

The Welsh Streets in Liverpool is one of the largest residential regeneration projects in the North West involving the transformation of five streets of Victorian terraced housing to create a range of over 250 family homes. The pilot project is nearing completion with avenues of semi-mature ornamental Cherry trees and linear planting beds to provide colour and interest along the street. New high quality flag paving and benches integrated into the planting beds will form the basis of the hard landscape treatment to the footpaths whilst rainwater from the roofs will be collected in rain garden planters to the front of the properties. To the rear, the traditional alleyways are being replaced by community gardens.
