Gingerbread City

When: 8th December - 6th January
Where: V&A, Cromwell Road, London SW7 2RU

A team from our London studio has designed and built one of the exhibits for this year’s Gingerbread City at the V&A Museum. This  annual exhibition is curated by the Museum of Architecture and  aims to connect the public with architecture through a fun and innovative display featuring an entire city of over 60 buildings crafted from gingerbread by architects, engineers and designers.

This year’s theme is Imagining the Future City, with an emphasis on sustainable urban planning, and our design is for a Uni-Beurre-sity campus focused on interdisciplinary research and cross-curricular learning and based on a teaching and learning building for the University of Birmingham. At its heart is a glowing lecture theatre surrounded by flexible learning spaces and the structure has playful references to the Hive at Kew Gardens, designed by Wolfgang Buttress as the centrepiece of the UK Pavilion at Milan Expo, and for which our landscape team created a sympathetic setting for the installation that would take visitors on an immersive journey through a colourful and vibrant wildflower meadow and into the world of the honeybee.

Tickets for the exhibition can be booked using the link below and visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite buildings by liking on Instagram using https://www.instagram.com/moagingerbreadcompetition/
