London, UK | Lambeth Sixth Form College | 2009 |
The new Sixth Form Centre in Clapham transforms the frontage for Lambeth College overlooking Clapham Common.
Three distinct elements make up the architectural form of the building: a five storey Learning Space, a Performing Arts Pod and a Wintergarden. A new reception pavilion has also been constructed to create a shopfront and glazed vestibule creating an entry point into the whole campus.
The Learning Space brings together science laboratories and flexible IT teaching spaces with views across the Wintergarden to the Common. The Performing Arts Pod accommodates a flexible performance, dance and drama suite, a belvedere library and artist’s studios with direct access onto a garden and sculpture terrace.
BDP is an architectural practice well versed in meeting the needs of education clients, which has staff who work diligently and imaginatively, who meet deadlines and work within budgets, and who produce exciting buildings.
