Project details

This Grade II listed building is a beautiful example of the late 19th century French Renaissance style high quality terraced residences along Grosvenor Place. The house at number six was redecorated later in the century for the former Prime Minister Henry Campbell-Bannerman who lived there. Subsequently the building housed the Forum Club, the first private club exclusively for women, established by Alice Williams and Fanny Laming in 1919. From 1954, the two properties were amalgamated and adapted for office use up to the present time.

Our design proposals encompass the refurbishment, repair and sensitive reordering of the property to bring it back to long term use with a functional brief commensurate with its history, quality and heritage significance. New designs encompass the change of use of the listed building to accommodate a high quality private members’ club with associated office space within the former townhouses and a café on the ground floor of the rear mews. The project not only secures the long term beneficial use of the building but also benefits Belgravia as a whole.

BDP gained planning and listed building consent for the sensitive refurbishment of the offices into a private members’ club. In addition, BDP obtained consent for subsequent amendments to the scheme and discharge of various planning conditions. This involved careful pre-application engagement with the local planning authority and statutory consultees. BDP is currently working to submit the final planning conditions and amendments to the local planning authority.
