Project details

Preparation of a Development Control Plan plus ward block fit-out.

This project involved the preparation of a Protective Development Control Plan encompassing refurbishment, fit-out, extension and new-build work at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar. The brief identified an 8,000m2 fit-out area and a 6,000m2 new build area.

Phase I of the project comprised the fit-out of four existing shell wards on four levels of the west wing and the full refurbishment of four existing wards on the east. This provided new accommodation for 250 patients, and included medical, surgical, obstetrics, paediatrics and maternity. In addition to the ward accommodation, a new first floor extension was constructed to accommodate a new Special Care Baby Unit.

Outside of the ward accommodation, phase I also included an upgrade of the main electrical infrastructure serving the whole hospital including new intake high voltage switchboard, transformer and low voltage switchboard, all of which were replaced with the hospital in full operation. A new car park management system, car park lighting and CCTV system was also provided.
