BDP's restoration of the historic Grade II listed Calder and Hebble Navigation Warehouse, the jewel in the Wakefield Waterfront masterplan developed by FaulknerBrowns.
The restoration of a grain warehouse built in 1816 and used virtually continuously until the 1980s after which it began to decay.
The design and conservation philosophy included the maximum retention of original fabric, repair of the fabric using matching materials and techniques, optimising the thermal performance of the building, introducing new vertical circulation, building engineering services and other necessary interventions in a well-designed contemporary idiom, clearly articulated from the historic fabric.
