Project details

Manchester Institute of Health and Performance (MIHP) facilitates education, research, diagnosis and development in sports science and medicine. It is operated by HCA Healthcare UK and is funded by Manchester City Council, Sport England and City Football Group. The unique partnership brings together leaders from sports, healthcare and the government to deliver cutting-edge facilities to the local community whilst driving groundbreaking research with global applications.

MIHP is split into two distinct forms. The front has formal private healthcare, administrative, and research and development accommodation. The rear is a functional and flexible box, housing the sports performance halls and laboratories. The facility is Care Quality Commission certified and was an early adopter of BIM, allowing us to design the building services to facilitate prefabrication. It incorporates a micro-CHP unit (17 kW thermal, 10 kW electrical) linked to the hydrotherapy suite, approximately 50 sqm photovoltaics and a solar hot water installation.

The MIHP is an integral part of the Beswick Community Hub, and is a new phase in the continuing development of East Manchester. We provided engineering services for this project, delivering Connell College, East Manchester leisure centre as part of this wider scheme.
