Project details

The building’s focus is a central green courtyard and reflection space. Facilities include an expanding theatre, sports hall and fitness studio, dynamic internal street, roof terraces, and transformational teaching spaces.

The design of the new academy can be split into two elements, the community block, and the learning pavilion which sits within landscaped grounds. Both are connected via a three storey atrium space which links the community entrance to the teaching spaces.

The material choices are simple, robust and controlled to provide a harmonious composition that speaks to the scheme’s context.

Brief

  • design a new school for 1,350 pupils, specialising in mathematics, sport and performing arts
  • provide legibility for all the building’s users

Results

  • a landmark on Ellesmere Port high street
  • a strong civic presence combined with a rich landscape setting
