Project details

The University Academy 92 (UA92) in Old Trafford supports a pioneering approach to the university experience and is a new venture founded by Lancaster University and the Manchester United Class of 92, in partnership with industry leaders such as Microsoft and KPMG.

UA92 is part of the Trafford Civic Quarter Masterplan and is a catalyst for wider regeneration, striving to transform the area around the town hall and surrounding buildings into a new civic quarter.

The project involved the transformation of what was the existing Kellogg’s European headquarters building into a new university environment including the reorientation of the building entrance. It offers teaching spaces organised around the existing atrium, breakout areas, a lecture hall, human performance lab, cafe and partnership areas. The ground and first floor areas are the first of three phases with the upper two floors providing shell and core expansion space for phases 2 and 3.

The provision of varying landscape spaces has allowed for areas of breakout teaching and improved pedestrian access to the university. Designed as a temporary space, the landscape was developed to allow for the construction of the future campus masterplan.
