The Berghkwartier in Oss comprises an urban redevelopment of a site that was occupied for decades by a Bergoss textile company that manufactured carpets. In the urban design and landscaping scheme for the site a few of the older structures have been retained and incorporated in the design. In the hard-landscaped areas, expressive brickwork patterns inspired by decorative carpets have been used to evoke the site’s industrial past.
The design of the public space consists of a curved urban spine leading from the Railway Station in the south to the town centre in the North. Consisting of two inversely curved sections, this urban spine has a square in the middle where the retained factory buildings recall the former industrial use.
