Wexham Park Hospital up for Project of the Year

Wexham Park Hospital’s new Emergency Assessment Centre has been shortlisted for Building Magazine’s project of the year. The project is one of eight to be considered for this prestigious award, the results of which will be announced on 5 November.

The new £34m building for Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust brings emergency department, ambulatory care and assessment units together under one roof, revolutionising the emergency care within the local NHS by delivering one-stop emergency care and assessment.

The project team committed to improve patient outcomes, whilst reducing the cost of construction through standardisation. As a result the building came in £1.5m under budget and completed a month early while reducing the average length of patient stay by a full day. These achievements required key technical innovations including prefabricated MEP service modules, BIM and VR modelling, and a design that optimises departmental proximities to reduce staff numbers and patient travel distances.

BDP was architect, civil and structural engineer and building services engineer for the project which completed in December 2018. Kier Construction was the main contractor.
