Project details

Scoil Oilibheir Naofa is a new 24 classroom school in Bettystown Co. Meath, located on a greenfield site to the north of the town. It also comprises a Special Needs Unit, Sports Hall and all associated support areas and is designed to also operate as a community centre.

The school is a two storey building that is a development of the 16 classroom GRD (Generic Repeat Design) school designed by BDP’s environmental engineers which has achieved a monitored energy usage of only 57kWh/m2/yr.

The school was procured under a Design and Build Contract.

Brief

  • develop a 24 classroom school in accordance with best practice
  • create quality teaching environments that avail of excellent daylighting and natural ventilation

Results

  • the school’s design creates a striking double height entrance, great daylight and interaction between spaces while keeping to the best principles of sustainable design & planning
  • the school was delivered within budget and ahead of programme
