BDP provides a collaborative environment which both encourages personal development and offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects with a focus on high quality design. Working as part of a smaller team has allowed me to have a hand in all aspects of a project from conception to completion, whilst also having the resources of a large studio at my disposal. The support I have received from senior colleagues and peers has been excellent, particularly whilst undertaking my Part III studies.

I wanted to work at BDP to collaborate with a diverse range of professionals whilst gaining experience across various sectors to further my career as an aspiring architect. Throughout my time here, I have had the opportunity to work on several projects through the RIBA stages to develop my knowledge while achieving my Part III Diploma at Birmingham City University. The practice offers a wide range of extra activities that engage all employees to socialise and integrate. I particularly enjoy the sketching competitions, social events and show and tell presentations where employees can present their external interests, university or practice work!

We began our apprenticeship journey within the building services profession in 2012, to support our commitment to contribute positively to the progressive and sustainable growth of the communities we serve. Since then, we have recruited apprentices at our studios for a variety of professions including architecture, civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, HR, project management and town planning, with plans for acoustics and landscape architecture.  Watch our Apprenticeship Roundtable Video to find out more.

Our supportive and flexible framework allows individuals to take responsibility for their own continuous development. Our competency-based appraisal scheme allows individuals to discuss their performance, career aspirations and development needs to identify a personal action plan that helps to structure their learning over the year.

A variety of learning opportunities are available to our people; structured work experience, coaching and mentoring, self-directed learning as well as CPD events, in-house and external courses.
