Why join BDP

1// inclusive

BDP actively fosters an inclusive organisation where people can be themselves and everyone has a sense of belonging. We want our teams to be diverse at every level, reflecting the communities we design for. As designers, we will create spaces for all that promote equity, wellbeing and participation within the built environment.

We actively encourage people from a variety of backgrounds with different skills, professional and life experiences, to join us and help us to achieve our aspirations. We also welcome applications from candidates who wish to work flexibly.

2// career

As a global multidisciplinary practice, BDP is strongly committed to driving innovation and collaboration. Working across different sectors and disciplines enables us to support our employees’ professional development. Our teams have the opportunity to collaborate across our global studios, work on major international projects and join professional development initiatives across the practice.

Don't just take our word for it, find out for yourself why these people joined and enjoy working at BDP:

3// Graduate

We are passionate about fostering talent and are committed to investing in our people. Each year we recruit graduates and provide mentoring and support to enable them to develop and thrive, as they progress towards professional qualification within their chosen profession.

BDP provides a collaborative environment which both encourages personal development and offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects with a focus on high quality design. Working as part of a smaller team has allowed me to have a hand in all aspects of a project from conception to completion, whilst also having the resources of a large studio at my disposal. The support I have received from senior colleagues and peers has been excellent, particularly whilst undertaking my Part III studies.

Hannah Bellerby Architect and Manchester School of Architecture Alumna

I wanted to work at BDP to collaborate with a diverse range of professionals whilst gaining experience across various sectors to further my career as an aspiring architect. Throughout my time here, I have had the opportunity to work on several projects through the RIBA stages to develop my knowledge while achieving my Part III Diploma at Birmingham City University. The practice offers a wide range of extra activities that engage all employees to socialise and integrate. I particularly enjoy the sketching competitions, social events and show and tell presentations where employees can present their external interests, university or practice work!

Mohammed Shaed Part II Architectural Assistant and De Montford Alumnus

We began our apprenticeship journey within the building services profession in 2012, to support our commitment to contribute positively to the progressive and sustainable growth of the communities we serve. Since then, we have recruited apprentices at our studios for a variety of professions including architecture, civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, HR, project management and town planning, with plans for acoustics and landscape architecture.  Watch our Apprenticeship Roundtable Video to find out more.

05// Continuous Learning

We are committed to recruiting talented individuals who share our values, and then nurturing and developing them to achieve their full potential with us. Everyone at BDP is encouraged to share their knowledge and skills, and to learn continuously throughout their career.

Our supportive and flexible framework allows individuals to take responsibility for their own continuous development. Our competency-based appraisal scheme allows individuals to discuss their performance, career aspirations and development needs to identify a personal action plan that helps to structure their learning over the year.

A variety of learning opportunities are available to our people; structured work experience, coaching and mentoring, self-directed learning as well as CPD events, in-house and external courses.

We aim to grow our own leaders and have a very good track record of promoting from within.

06// Benefits
and Rewards

We are committed to being an employer of choice and offer a competitive remuneration and benefits package as well as interesting work, a rewarding and friendly environment, excellent office space and a respect for the work-life balance of our people.

In addition to basic salary, all permanent employees can participate in BDP’s stakeholder pension arrangement to which the company contributes, the BDP Profit Share Scheme and tax-efficient Smart Benefits, Life Insurance, Long Term Sickness Insurance, Private Medical insurance and health screening, interest-free season ticket loans and enhanced maternity and paternity provision.

07// BDP Forums

We care about the wellbeing of our employees and offer an extensive Employee Assistance Programme alongside our BDP Mind Mental Health First Aiders who provide health and wellbeing advice to support colleagues across the practice.

Employee engagement is also important to us at BDP, so we have a number of forums that ensure participation by colleagues in key strategic areas. These include BDP Belonging that champions our equity and inclusion strategy, BDP Lab that promotes innovation and BDP Life where employee representatives are consulted on strategy and policy decisions.
