Boxpark Wembley wins top international award

Boxpark Wembley has won the best F&B concept at this year’s MAPIC Awards from a strong international shortlist. The awards reward excellence, innovation and creativity in the real estate industry, recognising the finest retailers and real estate projects.

Boxpark Wembley is the third Boxpark and a significant step forward for the company. It opened late 2018 and is located on the iconic Olympic Way providing new and complementary uses within Quintain’s Wembley Park development.

Whereas the previous projects at Shoreditch and Croydon were temporary buildings constructed from shipping containers, Boxpark Wembley seeks to creatively interpret another ubiquitous low-cost artefact – the portal framed shed – and repurpose it as a vibrant, multi-purpose, F+B destination.

The result is a building which is identifiably a Boxpark but adds new levels of functionality, flexibility and user-comfort, previously unachievable within the pop-up format. The building has a low-tech, raw, industrial aesthetic with 20 inward facing container-sized F+B units which are centred around a large, flexible event space served by a feature island bar. A range of integrated graphic interventions, and a highly flexible lighting scheme amplify and accentuate the Boxpark brand, creating a unique visitor experience.

Project director Gavin Elliott said: “Boxpark offers a clear vision for the future of the high street. Our concept is much more than just about transactional food drink and retail experience. The future of physical retail, in any format, is about creating a special customer environment and an experience led revolution where retail becomes entertainment and celebrates uniqueness and not flavourless joyless food chain. Boxpark is an example of how creating a vibrant feast for the senses can kickstart the physical retail renaissance.”

Roger Wade director of Boxpark said: “We are delighted to have won Best Global F&B Concept at the MAPIC Awards. At Boxpark Wembley we tried to build the most beautiful shed ever built and to redefine the fanzone experience for Wembley stadium and Arena visitors. This award recognises all the hard work from the development team BDP and Stace, and the Boxpark operational team.”
