BDP and Regeneration Brainery

To help build a better, more diverse future, BDP understands the importance of encouraging as many young, talented individuals as possible to pursue a career in the built environment.

Since 2020, we have partnered with Regeneration Brainery to connect with over 5,000 young people across England who might not have previously known just how diverse a career in the built environment can be. Regeneration Brainery helps encourage young people from a variety of backgrounds to consider a career in property and regeneration, and that there is a place in our industry for everyone.

BDP has been lucky enough to have engaged in 6 of their “Brainerys”, 5-day programmes that are made up of group projects, talks led by industry mentors, and office and site visits. Mark Braund, architect director for the North region, has participated as a mentor in several Brainerys.

Sharing stories of our journeys into the construction sector, and how we can help shape the environment we all live in is a great part of Regeneration Brainery. Connecting with students the excitement we feel for the work we do, and the huge variety of opportunities our industry holds is invaluable to help ensure what we do reaches the widest audience and the most diverse future

Our studio in Manchester has also been fortunate to welcome Brainees on several occasions, giving them an inside look into a multidisciplinary practice and the breadth of professions involved in the design of buildings and places, and the types of careers that they can pursue.

Through the projects that we work on, BDP has long shown our commitment to adaptive reuse, providing buildings with a new purpose whilst enhancing their social, physical and historical value and relevance. However, through our partnership with Regeneration Brainery, we can encourage the minds of the future to actively pursue careers paths that (as Regeneration Brainery says) take “unloved buildings, spaces, or communities and transform them into brilliant places to live, work, and enjoy”. BDP are fortunate to be able to engage in Regeneration Brainery’s grassroots programs and hope that through our partnership, we can affect real change for our industry now, and in the future.

Regeneration Brainery is fortunate to have such an incredible partnership with BDP. Their commitment to supporting our programme means that we can reach more and more young people each year, boost diversity, combat the lack of effective work experience, and tackle the skills shortage within the property sector. In doing so, together we are inspiring the next generation of young adults to kickstart their dream careers and make a real change to their futures.
