Tan Chiganze

Tan is a part 1 architectural assistant working primarily within the education sector, also with experience working on residential and healthcare projects.

Tan’s passion for architecture stemmed from her wish to help create spaces where people can feel empowered, accommodated, and inspired. In keeping with her current work on creative, forward thinking projects with the Birmingham team, in the future Tan would like to specialize in creating community spaces.

Tan already has a string of achievements within her portfolio; she was featured in the University of Bath’s 2019 RIBA Exhibition, was included on the RIBA Black History month Shortlist in 2021 for her Street Art Gallery Project, and her team was shortlisted for the Ted Happold Prize at the University of Bath in 2021.

Jerry Ren

After graduating from the Manchester School of Architecture with a first-class BA(hons) degree in Architecture, Jerry joined the Birmingham office as a part 1 architectural assistant.

Jerry is interested in a variety of sectors, namely education and transport. He is currently working on Birmingham associate Ronan Connelly’s team, whilst also collaborating with the education team.

Jerry thrives on the collaborative and innovative nature of architecture design, and has a great appreciation for the problem-solving process that can transform great concepts into reality.

Ahmed Hamid

Ahmed has joined our Birmingham studio as a part 1 architectural assistant after graduating from Birmingham City University, where he was nominated for a prestigious RIBA Bronze Medal.

Ahmed’s architecture journey started with a passion for design, which developed into a drive to learn how to design flourishing spaces that bring people together. He particularly enjoys the process of converting an idea into a tangible building or space.

Ahmed is currently focused on the education sector, working on multiple university projects.

Manbir Kaur

Manbir is Birmingham’s newest qualified architect, and has a particular interest in masterplanning, urban design, and education. Manbir studied her undergraduate degree in Coventry where she received a nomination for the RIBA Bronze Medal in addition to her First Class degree. She then went on to receive her masters degree at the University of Edinburgh, alongside her diploma at Birmingham City University.

Manbir is an ambitious and creative individual with a drive to design meaningful architecture that addresses the ever-changing world and enhances quality of life. Her professional architectural experience spans over many sectors, including healthcare, workplace, retail, education, and masterplan projects. Over the years she has gathered a wealth of knowledge and experience throughout the RIBA stages. Manbir is a firm believer that collaboration is the key to good architecture, and that software such as Revit are central in this process.

Speaking on what inspires her in her work, she mentions the works of Jane Jacob and Jan Gehl, both of whom focused on the importance of place making and the intangible relationship between buildings and the public realm.

Manbir particularly resonates with Gehl’s approach to architecture, and implements this in her own work and practice.

“First people, then spaces and then buildings - the other way around never works” – Jan Gehl.
