Project details

The building responds to the masterplan and marks the gateway to a new research and ecological district. Its design will set the composition principles that will be adopted by the façades of three other buildings surrounding an elliptical public space ‘Place Mandela’.

The façade plays on the kinetic perception induced by the dynamic shift of viewpoint created by the roundabout, tramway and cycling path movement. It transforms as you move around the building from reflecting the unique mountainous setting surrounding the city to opening itself up and revealing the collaborative nature of the activities within. A feature staircase defines the atrium entrance at the centre of the building and winter gardens create breakout spaces on all floors and contribute to the animation of the façade and to Place Mandela.

BDP won the international competition for the office building in July 2018 and will be taking the building to RIBA Stage 3 before handing over to our local partner Archigroup to deliver the building.
