Jiangbei Library, Nanjing

Facts

Location Size
Nanjing, China 42,000 sqm

Project details

This competition winning scheme provides a new library and media centre in the Jiangbei district of Nanjing.

The glass-fronted main atrium, which links the two buildings, allows plenty of light into an impressive central space. A series of bridges facilitates movement at each level between the main library on the west side of the scheme and the smaller media centre toward the east. The ground and lower ground levels are occupied by mixed-use leisure and retail space.

The scheme’s proximity to both city and parkland creates a natural axis that the design seeks to utilise creating welcoming places for people to walk through or to stop and enjoy.
