Project details

Set to deliver a step-change in evidence based driven design.

BDP is lead consultant for PPP hospitals at both Pinderfields and Pontefract (the latter designed by Avanti). Outdated buildings at both sites are being replaced or upgraded.

We are responsible for the design of the 88,000 m2, 708 bed acute hospital which will  focus on the patient and staff environment utilising shallow plan space and courtyards to deliver daylight and views to all occupied rooms.

Brief

  • transform healthcare services in the area and give local people access to two new state-of-the-art hospitals

Results

  • the design splits the building in two and is characterised by a soft ward side and a hard clinical side
  • an innovative wayfinding strategy is already being hailed as an exemplar
  • Partnership Bulletin Award 2011 (Best Designed Project), Wakefield Civic Society Design Award 2011 (Best New Build)
