Project details

After an open design competition held by the NHS and Liverpool City Council, BDP, in collaboration with developer Step Places, emerged as the winner of the commission. The joint vision was to create a vibrant residential community that seamlessly integrates with the new BDP-designed Alder Hey Children's Hospital, the broader health campus, and Springfield Park.

Springfield Gardens is a contemporary mixed-use development that introduces 182 new homes, fostering a truly diverse community. The design aims to deliver high-quality housing, encompassing a range of typologies such as accommodation for NHS staff, private residences, retirement apartments, and specialised living spaces for young individuals with autism. Additionally, the development features retail spaces, a gym, a crèche, and a new science research building for the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Critical to the masterplan approach is the creation and extension of the park landscape and green spaces from Springfield Park through to the surrounding streets. The new buildings provide views of the park itself, creating a safer and more welcoming place to be.
