Hanzekwartier Masterplan

Facts

Location Client Size Completion
Dronten, the Netherlands City of Dronten 55 hectares with 1300 dwellings, offices, schools station square 2013

Project details

The dated Hanzekwartier Light Industrial Zone will be redeveloped into a mixed use area for the city of Dronten. The opening of a railway station, right next to the Hanzekwartier, improves the accessibility of the site and will improve the connectivity of the city as a whole. This provides an opportunity to redevelop the dilapidated industrial area into a lively quarter.

A station square, designed by BDP Khandekar, will be the place of arrival for many city visitors. The station square is to be flanked by apartments, public amenities and, a short walking distance away, education buildings. Businesses and housing will also line the axis leading to the town centre.

In the masterplan, new water bodies extend from the existing canal into the area. Houses front onto this water, thus giving the new quarter a special character. A park running along the edge of the canal and the extension of the existing harbor area, will further improve the access to the water.
