The LOOP Awards celebrate excellence in architecture, interiors, product and graphic design from around the globe and the Bata Shoe Factory was selected from hundreds of entries submitted from 49 countries. This honour highlights the project’s success in combining architectural innovation, environmental responsibility and community-driven design.
The Bata Shoe Factory in Batawa transforms a historic industrial landmark into a vibrant mixed-use hub that combines commercial spaces, educational facilities, a daycare and 47 rental residences designed for families, aging-in-place and affordability. Community amenities, including event and exhibition rooms and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views, reinforce its social sustainability. Inside, the design honours the building’s heritage with an exposed concrete column and sculptural steel staircase, complemented by terrazzo flooring, wood paneling and locally sourced furnishings. With geothermal energy, a high-performance envelope and eco-friendly materials, the project blends history, community and sustainability in a modern, welcoming environment.

The Bata Shoe Factory embodies Sonja Bata’s legacy of progressive design and forward-looking community planning, showcasing how thoughtful architecture can preserve heritage, enhance quality of life and demonstrate environmental leadership. With this latest recognition from LOOP, the project further cements its place as one of our most awarded and celebrated works - an enduring example of how architecture can meaningfully shape communities.
We’re honoured to be recognized by LOOP and extend our thanks to our collaborators, clients and community partners who helped bring this project to life.
