The redeveloped complex brings together modern offices, specialist health and fitness suites, dedicated player spaces and world-class media facilities, creating an environment designed around performance, recovery and the demands of elite sport.

We provided bespoke acoustic design throughout, helping create spaces where players can train, recover and focus without distraction.

The project demanded very different acoustic environments across a complex, highly specialised building. From player areas and recovery spaces to media rooms and offices, each space needed to perform for its purpose.

High levels of sound insulation were required between sensitive areas, protecting player spaces from unwanted noise while providing privacy in offices, meeting rooms and media facilities.

We developed tailored room acoustic strategies to control reverberation and create the right acoustic environment for each space, using 3D acoustic modelling to inform the selection of absorptive finishes and soft furnishings.

A 3D external noise propagation model was used to assess noise levels across the facades and training pitches. This informed the acoustic design and helped minimise unwanted external noise during training and recovery.

Acoustic performance had to work hand-in-hand with the architecture, structure and building services, to integrate acoustic requirements without compromising the look, function or efficiency of the building.

We combined on-site benchmark testing of retained building elements with the specification of new high-performance partitions, acoustic linings, doors and glazing. Junction detailing was carefully considered to ensure the acoustic strategy performed as designed.

Throughout the project, we worked closely with the architects, engineers and contractors, providing design reviews, site inspections and acoustic testing from design through to delivery.

The result is a training environment where acoustics play a quiet but important role, supporting the privacy, concentration, performance and recovery of Manchester United’s players and staff.
