RAK Academy Khuzam's transformative refurbishment delivers a future-ready model for UAE schools
The ambitious refurbishment of RAK Academy Khuzam School in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, has been completed, redefining what a modern school environment in the region can be.
Designed by BDP, in collaboration with Marjan, the project represents a significant leap forward for education in the UAE, combining cutting-edge STEM facilities, flexible learning environments, and a design philosophy rooted in community, identity, and innovation.
Spanning all three levels of the school, the comprehensive redesign embraces a clean, contemporary, and minimalistic aesthetic that enhances wellbeing and concentration while giving students and teachers the flexibility to adapt their learning spaces.
At its core, the new STEM lab wing, a state-of-the-art hub for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, provides an inspiring environment for hands-on discovery and experimentation, equipping students with the tools to learn, innovate, and explore.
The design reflects the unique educational vision of RAK Academy, embedding nature, bilingualism, and music into the school’s fabric. Influenced by the surrounding mangrove ecosystems, the interiors evoke a sense of renewal and resilience, while specialist spaces support language learning, cultural exchange, and performance.
Together, these elements create an inclusive and forward-thinking environment that celebrates diversity, creativity, and sustainability.

The project was delivered in close collaboration with RAK Academy and Marjan, with BDP leading on the educational vision, architecture, interior design, and project coordination. With more than 100 nationalities represented across its student body and teaching staff, RAK Academy Khuzam School now stands as a truly global centre of learning, ready to nurture the next generation of thinkers, creators, and innovators.
