BDP's Acoustics team were asked to review the acoustic implications of installing a retractable roof to the 22,000 seat stadium, which was part way through construction.

The two primary concerns were noise from the nearby railway line and increased crowd noise. Given the vast areas involved, the cost of acoustic treatment would be significant and the options available limited. The client therefore wanted to fully understand the acoustic implications and the expected improvement before making an informed decision.
Detailed 3D computer models were created, which were calibrated via onsite measurements during the US Open Tournament with the roof in a partially complete state. Our modelling and analysis clearly identified the source of the perceived issues, and allowed testing of various solutions to assess their effectiveness.
